Granite

Granite is a naturally occurring rock formed in the earth’s crust from the cooling of lava composed of quartz, feldspar, mica and various other minerals. The exact mix of minerals is what determines the colour and pattern of the granite. Large blocks of granite are extracted from quarries and cut into slabs that are then used to make bathroom and kitchen countertops So, manufacturing is required to produce granite countertops but the material itself is “natural” vs. man-made materials used to make other types of countertops.

Quartz

Quartz is a hard mineral consisting of silica, found widely in igneous and metamorphic rocks and typically occurring as colourless or white hexagonal prisms. It is often coloured by impurities.

Ceramic

ceramic is any of the various hard, brittle, heat-resistant and corrosion-resistant materials made by shaping and then firing a non-metallic mineral, such as clay, at a high temperature. Common examples are earthenware, porcelain, and brick.

Corian

Corian is a brand of solid surface material created by DuPont. Its primary use is as a countertop and benchtop surface, though it has many other applications. It is composed of acrylic polymer and alumina trihydrate, a material derived from bauxite ore.

Lamiate

Laminate is made mainly from plastic and wooden particle board, laminate worktops are typically cheaper than wooden worktop
